Christine Michael unlikely to play Thursday and other Seahawks injury updates
Christine Michael is not expected to play because of a hamstring injury that occurred during Tuesday’s practice, and considering that Marshawn Lynch won’t play much, if at all in preseason game No. 4, the Seahawks needed another ball carrier.
“Christine Michael pulled up a little bit yesterday in practice, so we’re just ensuring we have enough guys to run the football,” Carroll said. “(Bronson) did a real nice job when he was here, and numbers just caught him at the cut, so we’re really glad to get him back.”
As usual, Carroll went with his “You have to wait and see” answer when asked how much starters will play, but the expectation is that they won’t play much, and some may not play at all.
One player you likely won’t see is defensive tackle Tony McDaniel, who has sat out much of the past week with a sore knee. Cornerback Jeremy Lane, who has what Carroll called, “a mild (groin) strain” won’t play either, though Carroll said, “we think he’ll be all right for next week.”
Receiver Percy Harvin has been absent the past two days, which Carroll said, was, “a personal day today. Personal business.”
Carroll said the conditions in Oakland—the dirt baseball field is in play until the A’s finish their season—won’t affect how much anyone plays.
On TE Cooper Helfet, who injured his knee in last week’s game, Carroll said, “He’s getting good reports too, he’s coming back quickly, but we don’t know. We’ll just have to go day to day.”
Rookie DT Jimmy Staten (hamstring) has done some work this week. Carroll said of Staten: “Jimmy’s close. He’s getting closer. He won’t make this trip, but he’s back to running.”
Asked about LB Bruce Irvin (hip) and WR Kevin Norwood (foot), Carroll said both, “have a shot to get back next week.”
WR Bryan Walters, who missed last week’s game with a rib injury, “is available to return kicks and punts,” Carroll said.
