The host Hawks led 12-2 heading to the top of the ninth, but Everett did not go quietly.
The Sox sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs, combining five hits and two walks.
But it was too little, too late for Everett, which saw Boise jump in front early, chasing Sox starter Luiz Gohara with a six-run second inning. Gohara gave up a hit, three walks and two wild pitches (the Sox also committed two errors) before departing, having failed to get an out in the inning.
Everett manager Dave Valle, no doubt frustrated by his team’s play in the second, was not around to see his team eventually get the third out after almost a half-hour in the field.
Valle was ejected for arguing a foul call by home plate umpire Derek Mollica after a
bunted ball rolled foul and then appeared to roll back into fair territory.
The foul call kept the Sox from recording an out, riling Valle, who was ejected for the third time this season.
After Everett scored twice in the fourth, Boise tacked on four runs in the sixth and two more in the eighth.
Aside from the ninth inning rally, the Sox had few highlights. One was a running over-the-shoulder catch by Everett center fielder Austin Cousino in the seventh, taking an extra-base hit away from Boise’s Mark Malave.
Everett relief pitcher Nick Kiel, a product of Mill Creek’s Jackson High School, pitched four scoreless innings, giving up five hits and striking out two.
Cousino, James Alfonso and Phillips Castillo each had two hits for the Sox, with one of Castillo’s hits being a two-run home run.
Both benches emptied with two outs in the eighth inning after a pitch by Everett’s
Leoncio Munoz sailed behind Boise’s Jesse Hodges. Hodges barked at Munoz, a few of
the Sox players barked back, and eventually both benches and bullpens emptied, though order was quickly restored.
