SEATTLE — Seattle police say a driver with at least four unpaid parking tickets crushed a parking enforcement officer’s hand with his Lexus as he tried to keep the vehicle from being immobilized by a wheel clamp.
Detective Drew Fowler says the 57-year-old man was arrested for investigation of reckless endangerment. The parking officer was taken to a hospital. Fowler says she reportedly suffered at least one fracture and tendon damage in Wednesday’s incident.
The spokesman says two parking officers began placing the clamp on the Lexus after spotting it in the Belltown neighborhood. That’s when the driver hopped in the car. Fowler says the officers told the man not to try to drive off, but he put the vehicle into reverse and backed up, crushing one officer’s hand between the clamp and one of the car’s tires.
