Seahawks place C/G Lemuel Jeanpierre on injured reserve, re-sign WR Phil Bates

Pete Carroll was vague about the status of Lemuel Jeanpierre during Wednesday’s press conference. A few hours later, there’s more clarity on the backup lineman, and it isn’t good news. Jeanpierre, who has not practiced all week because of a neck injury, was placed on injured reserve, meaning his season is over unless he reaches an injury settlement with the Seahawks to become a free agent should he get healthy before the season is over.

Jeanpierre, who joined Seattle’s practice squad in 2010 and has been on the active roster the past three seasons, started three games at center last year in place of an injured Max Unger. In his absence, the Seahawks will use Stephen Schilling as their backup center.

Bates, who made Seattle’s 53-man roster when cuts were made Saturday, was released two days later and replaced by receiver Bryan Walters. With both of them now on the roster, the Seahawks currently have eight receivers, a very high number, on their roster, and only eight offensive linemen. Expect those numbers to change soon.

The Seahawks also made a handful of practice squad moves, signing guard David Arkin, linebacker Allen Bradford and guard Drew Nowak. The Seahawks released receiver Chris Matthews, defensive back Terrance Parks and guard Nate Isles from the practice squad.

If Bradford’s name rings a bell, that’s because the former USC running back turned linebacker has spent time both on Seattle’s practice squad and active roster in the past two seasons.
