Seahawks notebook: Jeanpierre placed on IR, Bates re-signed
Jeanpierre, who joined Seattle's practice squad in 2010 and has been on the active roster the past three seasons, started three games at center last year in place of an injured Max Unger. In his absence, the Seahawks will use Stephen Schilling as their backup center.
Bates, who made Seattle's 53-man roster when cuts were made Saturday, was released two days later and replaced by receiver Bryan Walters. With both of them now on the roster, the Seahawks currently have eight receivers, a very high number, on their roster, and only eight offensive linemen. Expect those numbers to change soon.
Carroll said that cornerback Tharold Simon will likely require a minor procedure to deal with a knee injury. In addition to Simon, the Seahawks will be without TE Cooper Helfet (knee), RB Christine Michael (hamstring) and LB Kevin Pierre-Louis (hamstring). The news is better on the other three players on the injury report, with WR Kevin Norwood (ankle), CB Jeremy Lane (groin) and LB Bruce Irvin (hip) all listed as probable.
Players voted on captains this week, and they are Russell Wilson for offense, Kam Chancellor for the defense, and Jon Ryan and Steven Hauschka for special teams. It's the second straight year with Wilson earning captains honors, while Chancellor replaces Red Bryant, and Hauschka and Ryan replacing Heath Farwell, who is on injured reserve.
“We have terrific leadership on this football team and I'm really proud to say that,” Carroll said.
Packers fan or cop?
For the second year in a row, undercover police officers will attend Seahawks games wearing opposing teams' jerseys as part of the team's focus on fan conduct. Consider yourselves warned, Seahawks fans.
