BELLINGHAM — A 47-year-old woman who allegedly pulled a gun on young children playing outside has been charged with six counts of assault.
Gwyneth Fay Hafstad, of Kendall, is being held in Whatcom County Jail on $100,000 bail.
Prosecutors in Whatcom County say she parked her SUV outside a neighbor’s house on Aug. 28, and handed out chalk to four kids, ages 3, 5, 8 and 9, who were playing outside.
According to the charges, Hafstad then went to her SUV, grabbed a handgun and aimed it at the children from about 30 to 40 feet away.
Several people called police, including Hafstad. She called police to say she had been “surrounded.”
The Bellingham Herald reports that she has a history of mental illness.
