MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — A smoldering cigarette caused a two-alarm blaze in on Friday that left 25 people displaced.
No one was hurt, said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1.
The fire was reported at 8:20 a.m. at the Taluswood apartment complex along 236th Street SW. At least three apartments were damaged by flames, and several more from smoke and water.
The fire was extinguished within an hour, though crews remained on scene monitoring hot spots. One dog, Daisy Mae, was rescued from the building and was recovering at an emergency clinic, Hynes said.
The fire compromised the electrical system, leaving about half of the building without power. The damage was estimated at more than $500,000. The American Red Cross was assisting those displaced.
