EPHRATA — A wildfire that was reportedly threatening homes in Grant County is smaller than officials first thought.
The Trinidad Fire was feared to be about 1,500 acres and threatening a dozen homes after it started west of Quincy on Saturday afternoon, but fire spokesman Jeff Sevigney said Sunday that better mapping revealed it to be only 300 acres. He said it’s not threatening any homes.
Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources to attack the blaze late Saturday. Seventy-four people were fighting it Sunday, and it was listed as 30 percent contained.
