PORTLAND, Ore. — Gov. John Kitzhaber has invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act so the state fire marshal can mobilize resources to protect homes threatened by a wildfire west of Portland.
The Scoggins Creek wildfire two miles northwest of Hagg Lake started Friday afternoon and has scorched more than 300 acres. No injuries have been reported.
Residents from about three dozen homes were told to evacuate, and people in another 20 to 30 homes have been advised to be ready to go.
Though summer’s just about over, Kitzhaber said the blaze is a reminder that fire season has not ended.
