Food stamps
We’re going to need a bigger mailbox: The U.S. Postal Service, looking to turn around its bleak financial picture, has proposed adding grocery deliveries to its mail carrying duties. The Post Office would work with local retailers to deliver groceries (Page A8).
It sounds like a good idea, but we don’t think the Post Office has taken into consideration how much time it’s going to take to hand-cancel the stamp on every egg.
I have a bad feeling about this: A new book, “How Star Wars Conquered the Universe,” is a history of the movie and toy franchise and its effect on our culture. Author Chris Taylor said he stayed away from making light of Star Wars fans, particularly those who dress as wookies or Boba Fett. (Page D4).
But man, don’t get him started on Trekkies; those guys are such geeks!
Sorry, ladies: George Clooney and his fiancee, Amal Alamuddin, arrived in Venice, Italy, for their weekend wedding, which includes a large ceremony Saturday and a civil ceremony Monday (Page Ax).
Just in case you wanted to get them a little something, the couple are registered at Crate &Barrel, REI and Nordstrom under the name, “The Buzz,” you know, to avoid paparazzi.
