I read in the News of Mill Creek newsletter that the Mill Creek Pharmacy is to close. This is very sad. And, it’s happening all around us. My company is caught in the same dilemma because of constant changes with Medicare, insurance carriers (because they follow Medicare guidelines), FDA and other regulatory agencies. It never stops. Just when I think we comprehend one rule or guideline the rules change, and not for the good.
For many years I have said I love what I do and I love helping people and I won’t ever retire. Sadly, the government has taken the joy out of my mission. I’m especially sad about the seniors. They are the ones who really need our products, but Medicare has made it so difficult and punitive. We have to turn people away because one “T” is not crossed or one “I” is not dotted in their chart notes from the clinic. This is not an exaggeration, it’s a daily occurrence.
After 25 years in business, I think there is a better way and it starts with convening focus groups of providers to listen to our suggestions. We are on the front line and trying to run honest ethical businesses. I think we know better than bureaucrats in cubicles how to make positive changes that will work and make the system better. It’s only going to continue to get worse. The government’s answer of more and more rules is not working. If you haven’t been affected yet, stay tuned, it’s guaranteed you will be. It’s only a matter of when.
