Silvertips keep road record perfect, beat Kamloops 5-1

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The Everett Silvertips have started out the 2014-15 WHL season playing the roll of the road warriors.

Everett kept its road record perfect, knocking off the Kamloops Blazers 5-1 Saturday night.

Ivan Nikolishin recorded his second straight three-point game, notching a goal and two assists as Everett (5-0-2-0) improved to 4-0 in away contests.

Kevin Davis, Cole MacDonald, Kohl Bauml and Carson Stadnyk also scored for the Tips, who scored twice late to make the final margin more flattering. Austin Lotz played a strong game in goal for the Tips, finishing with 28 saves.

Brady Gaudet scored for Kamloops (6-3-1-0). Bolton Pouliot made 20 saves in net for the Blazers.

Kamloops actually found the net first, opening the scoring on the power play 8 minutes, 12 seconds into the game. Gaudet had a shooting lane from the top of the circle and he put a shot into the top corner to stake the Blazers a 1-0 lead.

But the Tips fought back and scored twice in a two-minute span to take the lead. Davis tied it at 14:20 when he skated the puck into the zone and fired a shot past Pouliot. Then Everett took the lead on the power play at 16:24, Nikolishin cutting across the slot and firing against the grain to beat Pouliot and make it 2-1.

After a scoreless second period, Everett increased its lead to two just 59 seconds into the third. MacDonald put a seeing-eye shot from the point through traffic and into the top corner, making it 3-1.

The Blazers took control of the game after that, but Lotz made some good saves to maintain Everett’s lead. Then the Tips put it away with 2:46 remaining when a flowing passing move in transition involving Davis, Nikita Scherbak and Patrick Bajkov set up Bauml on the doorstep. Stadnyk put an exclamation point on the game by scoring with 2.6 seconds remaining to create the final margin.
