Prep volleyball: Snohomish 3, Kamiak 1

SNOHOMISH — The Snohomish volleyball team defeated Kamiak 3-1 on Tuesday night to stay in first place in the Wesco 4A standings. Set scores were 25-23, 23-25, 26-24, 25-8.

“To us every win is a big win. We want to make sure we finish number one in the league,” Snohomish head coach Alex Tarin said. “I know when it comes to standings this game looked bigger than another, but for us every game is huge.”

After the first three sets were decided by two points each, the Panthers pulled away in the final set, led by their strong service. Snohomish recorded 16 missed serves in the first three games but failed to miss a serve in the final set.

“I told the girls in the huddle to play our game and serve agressively, but to make sure to serve it accurate,” Tarin said.

Snohomish had four players finish with 10 or more kills and their setter, Kendle Valade-Nunez, tallied 55 assists, eight digs and two aces. Jessica Brennis recorded 22 kills and McKenzie Harris added 18 kills for the Panthers.

“As a coach it makes me happy because in volleyball there is usually a rotation where you are nervous about where you will find points,” Tarin said. “With our team this year all of our girls can contribute.”

Bailey Cornett recorded 10 kills and Kat Anderson added 12 assists and nine kills for the Knights.
