YAKIMA — The Yakima City Council approved a six-month moratorium Tuesday night on any new homeless shelters in the city.
City staff requested the moratorium in response to interest in turning an old market building into a shelter. That could affect homeless shelters moving into 14 other small convenience centers in the city.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reported the council approved three winter shelters already established in churches.
