ARLINGTON — It’s always good to win in your own backyard. In the case of the Lakewood cross country teams, it almost happened twice.
The Lakewood boys captured first place Saturday at the Cascade Conference Cross Country Championships at Lakewood High School. The Cougars finished with 45 points, three points ahead of runner-up King’s.
Lakewood placed three runners in the top 10, including Douglas Davis, who finished second overall in the 3.2-mile race with a time of 16 minutes, 33 seconds.
Andrew Ayers of King’s won the race in 16:32.
In the girls meet, Cedarcrest took home the top spot with three runners in the top 10. Lakewood finished second and King’s third.
Individually, Lakewood’s Keely Hall and Lilly Whitehead took first and second, respectively. Hall’s winning time was 21:02.
