Promising Artists in Recovery (PAIR), an art program for youth involved in the juvenile drug court system at some level in Snohomish County, offered its fourth photography class to local students this fall at the Everett Public Library. Students again were given 35mm film and cameras to document the people and things important to them. Unique to this course, Everett Community College poetry professor Roger Berger encouraged students to write poems about their photographs inspired by their lives.
The class was taught by freelance photographer Annie Mulligan and facilitated by teaching artist Henri Wilson and would not be possible without the generous help of Kodak, Ken’s Camera in Everett and the Everett Public Library.
Herald Chief Photographer Mark Mulligan introduced students to large format photography with a 4X5 film camera and helped them compose black and white self-portraits. Program funding is provided by the Blanche Miller Trust and the Howarth Trust.
Students will be participating in an exhibition of their photographs and poetry on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Everett Public Library from 4-6 p.m. with a presentation at 5 p.m.
