In an expected move, the Seahawks activated cornerback Jeremy Lane off the injured reserve/designated for return list, making him eligible to play in Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. Lane has not played since injuring his groin in Week 1, but returned to practice three weeks ago, though this is the first week he was eligible to be activated.
Lane’s return is timely for Seattle, as his replacement at the nickel cornerback position, Marcus Burley, is questionable with a hamstring injury.
To make room on the roster, the Seahawks placed guard/center Stephen Schilling on injured reserve, ending his season. Schilling, a Bellevue High product, started three games at center in place of an injured Max Unger this season, but did not start last week because of a sore knee. Schilling did end up playing in the second half, replacing Patrick Lewis when the Seahawks wanted a bit more offensive line experience following an injury to guard James Carpenter, but Schilling did not practice this week.
For now, that leaves Lewis as the only center on the roster behind Unger though one possible move the Seahawks could make later would be to re-sign Lemuel Jeanpierre. Jeanpierre, their former backup center, was placed on injured reserve prior to the season opener, then waived with an injury settlement. He is now healthy and has had workouts with other teams, but per the conditions of his injury settlement, he is not eligible to sign with Seattle until Week 12.
