The letter about GM, “Don’t forget their recent past,” smacks of hypocrisy! The main reason they left Detroit and Flint was because people bought Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Suzuki, etc. The writer neglects that Toyota hid for years the sudden accelerator problem which killed hundreds of people and finally in March of this year paid a $1.2 billion fine.
Michael Moore’s movie “Roger and Me” was a typical crockumentary, which is to say that Mr. Moore likes to bend the facts. GM moved out of Detroit because they could no longer afford to pay factory workers $24 an hour to put hubcaps on wheels and they were over-taxed by the state and city governments.
I have two GM vehicles, a Chevy and a Cadillac, and they are the best cars I have ever owned.
Detroit, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Miami, St. Louis, El Paso, Milwaukee, Philadelphia and Newark are the top 10 bankrupt cities in the USA. What do they have in common? They all taxed their businesses out of town and they are all governed by Democrats. Go figure.
