The results are in, and the Worst Parking Lot in Snohomish County dishonors go to the Trader Joe’s complex on Everett Mall Way.
It wasn’t even close.
Frontier Village in Lake Stevens, the Marysville Safeway complex and Boeing Everett were runners-up in this completely unscientific tally of votes by email, Facebook post and blog comment.
The runners-up were outnumbered by far more votes than there are parking stalls at the Trader Joe’s complex.
Among those giving a thumbs-down to the tiny parking lot, which also serves a dollar store and Christian book store, was Susan Shatzka Maass of Clearview. “I won’t even go there anymore,” she said in her Facebook comment.
Truth be told, I forgot about the parking lot because I avoid it, too.
“Three businesses share the lot that TJ or The Dollar Store could fill on their own,” said Diane Neighbors of Everett in an email. Drivers sometimes back up onto Everett Mall Way as they try to find a spot in the small loop. “Add carts, kids, tight spaces to the mix — it’s challenging.”
This question was initially posed in the lead-up to Black Friday. So it’s fair that we also hear from Sabrina of Everett who “braved that parking lot … on Black Friday expecting the worst, but came out relatively unscathed.”
She still calls it one of the worst, though.
For the record, my co-worker and I are tied. We each got one measly vote for our nominations (hers for the Costco complex at Smokey Point and mine for the Winco on 116th Street in Marysville).
Other nominees included Xfinity Arena in downtown Everett — for lack of a parking lot — and, my personal favorite, I-5.
