MILL CREEK — Police have launched a death investigation after human remains were found in the woods off the Bothell-Everett Highway.
Someone walking in the woods spotted what appeared to be a badly decayed human body near the 17500 block of the highway and called 911 a little after 6 p.m. Sunday, Mill Creek police officer Ian Durkee said.
“It does appear to be human remains that are badly decomposed,” he said. “The identification will take a while, if at all.”
Police marked off and secured the scene for the night. It’s a “large, wooded, marshy area,” Durkee said, and detectives could not safely and thoroughly investigate at night.
A team plans to be out there Monday morning. That area of the woods is known for some homeless camps, and it’s not unusual for people to be out there, Durkee said.
Police do not have any details yet about the body. They do not know the age or gender of the person, how long the remains have been there or what may have caused the person’s death.
“I don’t think there will be any quick answers with this one,” Durkee said.
