SILVERDALE — A Kitsap County sheriff’s spokesman says a 5-year-old boy was seriously injured when he was attacked by two Rottweiler dogs at a home in Silverdale, Washington.
Deputy Scott Wilson says the child suffered serious bite wounds to the neck and head on Tuesday. He was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Wilson says the child’s mother was caring for the dogs as a favor to an ex-boyfriend. The deputy says the boy was playing with one dog outside the house when the dog started biting the child. The second dog joined in the attack. The boy’s mother tried unsuccessfully to pull the dogs off, then covered the child with her body, getting bitten herself in the process. Wilson says another relative came outside and helped rescue the child.
The deputy says the two dogs, as well as a third dog that was not involved, have been turned over to Kitsap Animal Rescue.
A Harborview spokesperson did not immediately return a call for information on the boy’s condition.
