OLYMPIA — Lawmakers from the House and Senate honored former governor and U.S. Senator Dan Evans with a resolution noting his long service to Washington state.
Evans was joined by his wife, Nancy, Wednesday morning in the Senate chamber. Also in attendance was Slade Gorton, a fellow Republican who is a former state attorney general and former U.S. senator.
Evans, 89, was elected to the Legislature in 1956 and later served three terms as governor. He went on to become president of the Evergreen State College, and then was elected to the U.S. Senate, serving from 1983 to 1989.
