ARLINGTON — The Arlington City Council is expected to vote soon on another change to the city’s police department.
The council is expected to approve the creation of a new deputy chief position.
The job has been posted internally, and interviews were being conducted this week, city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said. The person selected is expected to be announced next week.
An overhaul of the police department has been under way since last year, with fire chief Bruce Stedman serving as the city’s temporary public safety director.
The city also is expected to eliminate two police commander positions as part of the ongoing changes to address “deficiencies in the management structure,” council documents show.
The overhaul is supposed to wrap up at the end of 2016.
