SNOHOMISH — The “Thumb” is a perfect venue for the sort of intimate acoustic show that Michael Tomlinson performs.
The Tim Noah Thumbnail Theatre hosts the singer, songwriter and storyteller at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at the theater, 1211 Fourth St., Snohomish. Admission is $25.
As Seattle Weekly recently wrote, “There’s no preachiness in (Tomlinson’s) songs of love and love of Earth, just the voice of a regular guy.”
Tomlinson’s music can’t be lumped in any specific genre.
Folk rock and jazzy pop overlap, as do Americana and bluegrass influences. About his most recent studio album, West Coast Music said, “This is the album I’ve been waiting 20 years for James Taylor to make.” Three years ago Michael even received a personal letter from former President Jimmy Carter, praising his song, “Seeds of Love.”
After working for large record labels, Tomlinson regained ownership of his masters and returned home to Seattle to work on what he called his own “cottage industry.”
Tomlinson plans to record an album of new material this winter and currently is performing his one-man show around the nation.
