Cosby show at Edmonds Center for the Arts postponed indefinitely

EDMONDS — It’s “postponed indefinitely.”

Comedian, TV and movie star Bill Cosby, accused by numerous women of sexual assault, won’t be performing at Edmonds Center for the Arts.

In a statement Monday morning, Joe McIalwain, executive director for Edmonds Public Facilities District’s Edmonds Center for the Arts, said the Bill Cosby comedy show, scheduled for April 17, has been postponed indefinitely.

Since October, Edmonds Center for the Arts officials have been talking with Cosby’s touring agency and management team regarding his scheduled performance in Edmonds, McIalwain said.

Both groups have agreed to postpone the event, he said.

Edmonds Center for the Arts is offering people who bought tickets to see Cosby some options.

People can exchange their tickets for another concert this season, request a refund or to convert the value of their tickets into a tax-deductible donation to the non-profit performing arts center.

Cosby, 77, hasn’t been charged with any crime. Through his lawyer, he has denied the claims of assault, some of which date back decades.

A number of venues across the country have canceled or postponed appearances by Cosby, and many have gone ahead with performances.

Earlier this month in Turlock, California, protestors gathered outside the town’s theater while an enthusiastic audience greeted the comedian, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Cosby performed at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe this past August, before allegations surfaced.

The box office team at Edmonds is contacting all ticket holders. Box office hours are noon to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The phone number is 425-275-9595.

Cosby got his start in stand-up at the “hungry i” club in San Francisco. Soon after he landed a starring role in the 1960s show “I Spy.” His numerous comedy albums have won Grammy awards. He is perhaps best known for his 1980s TV situation comedy, “The Bill Cosby Show.”
