Weekend fun: Super Bowl, GroundFrog Day, Star Wars, more

Cheer: Watch the Seahawks face the Patriots at 3:30 p.m. Sunday on NBC. If you need ideas for party food, look here. For a list of places showing the game, as well as other events celebrating the Seahawks, check our list here.

The 12th Frog: On Saturday, Snohomish Slew (famous frognosticator, see below) will make his pick for the winner of Hawks-Patriots matchup. Odds are on him picking the Seahawks to win — otherwise he risks becoming frog legs. You can join in the fun with a photo opp and a meet and greet with his froginess from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Fred’s Rivertown Alehouse, 1114 First Street, Snohomish.

Hop to it: The GroundFrog Day Celebration and Frognostication Ceremony is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at First Street and Avenue A in Snohomish. There will be games, face painting, crafts, dancing, and of course, a prediction by Snohomish Slew with his handler Thayer Cueter of Just Frogs and Friends Amphibian Center. For more fun, an open swim session begins at 2 p.m. at the Snohomish Aquatic Center, 516 Maple Ave.

The big screen: See “7 Minutes,” which was filmed in Everett and around Snohomish County, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Historic Everett Theatre. Three high school friends are forced to commit a brazen robbery which quickly goes horribly wrong. Read more about it in our story here. For tickets go here.

A galaxy far, far away: A new show opens Saturday at the EMP Museum in Seattle. Star Wars and The Power of Costume offers a behind-the-scenes look at some of the most iconic costumes in film history. There are 60 costumes and numerous other artifacts for fans to admire. Seattle is the first stop on the 12-city national tour. Timed ticket entrance every 20 minutes, starting at 10 a.m. daily through October.

Local wildlife: The Camano Wildlife Habitat Project will teach people about common animals found in Snohomish and Island counties at 1 p.m. Saturday. The presentation is in the Whale Room and store at Cama Beach State Park. The park’s collection of preserved animals, pelts and bones will be on display, and a scope will let people observe shorebirds in the bay, weather permitting. A Discovery Pass or day-use pass is required to park at Cama Beach State Park. For more information, call 360-387-2236.

“Mary Poppins”: Village Theatre’s production about the flying, singing perfect nanny continues this weekend at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave, Everett. Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday. Ticket information is available here.

Big band: Enjoy live music and dance with Kamiak High School’s jazz band on Friday. Swing dance lessons begin at 6 p.m. and the main event begins at 7 p.m. at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. Tickets are $10, available at the door. Food and drink included with ticket. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Would you want to give something as elaborate as this a name as mundane as “bread box”? A French Provincial piece practically demands the French name panetiere.
A panetiere isn’t your modern bread box. It’s a treasure of French culture

This elaborately carved French antique may be old, but it’s still capable of keeping its leavened contents perfectly fresh.
