SEATTLE — Seattle Seahawks All-Pro free safety Earl Thomas played the Super Bowl with a torn labrum in his left shoulder and will need offseason surgery to repair the injury.
David Mulugheta, Thomas’ agent, confirmed the injury and need for surgery in an e-mail to The Associated Press on Thursday. ESPN first reported Thomas needing surgery.
Thomas suffered a dislocated shoulder in the first half of the NFC championship game. He returned to play the second half and played in last Sunday’s Super Bowl against New England wearing a brace to protect the shoulder. Thomas was in for every defensive play of the 28-24 loss.
On Monday, Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Thomas might need surgery.
