EVERETT — Detectives are continuing to investigate the disappearance of two Snohomish girls who were found in Tacoma over the weekend, but few additional details were released on Monday.
The pair, who left their homes late last month, were released to state Child Protective Services.
“Law enforcement coordinated with CPS to ensure the girls’ safety,” said Shari Ireton, a spokeswoman with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
Samantha Eldredge and Keyanna Monson, both 16, initially were reported home with their families on Sunday morning. However, the girls are instead at “a safe location where they will receive the support they need,” according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
They had been missing since Jan. 28. The girls were located by people assigned to work on FBI child exploitation task forces. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is a member of the North Central Sound task force and the Tacoma Police Department is a member of the South Sound task force.
Both teams are investigating the circumstances of the girls’ disappearances, Ireton said.
The girls were located together.
No arrests have been made.
The sheriff’s office last week asked the public’s help in finding the teens. They feared for the girls’ safety.
“Some information related to how and where victims were located cannot be released at this time, due to the age of the victims and to avoid jeopardizing the active investigation,” Ireton said Monday.
