Regarding the letter about Fox News, “Be specific about lies, distortion”: You asked for documentation, you got it. There are too many lies to debate each one — so here is an independent analysis.
In a recent Politifact study Fox News got the No. 1 rating for lies. MSNBC was a little more truthful — but keep in mind MSNBC doesn’t pretend to be a news network. The most accurate news network is CNN. I recently saw another study that proved those who watched none of the news networks tested more knowledgeable about world affairs than those who watch Fox News. Google it. According to Politifact data, with anything Fox says you will have a 58 percent chance of it being mostly false or worse; 39 percent will have some bases of fact. Out of that number, 10 percent could be proven true, 11 percent mostly true and 18 percent half true. In another category, almost the same percentage is demonstrably false. Out of that grouping, 26 percent were mostly false, and those tagged as “pants on fire” were 11 percent.
Watching Fox News is actually more deleterious to your knowledge base because these data did not include statements made by candidates, government officials or their representatives and you know there are not many progressives in that mix. Everyone knows that Fox News is an arm of the Republican party. They spin the dickens in a positive direction for conservatives and in a negative direction for progressives. Almost everything Obama does is bad. Really!
