MARYSVILLE — A new website will serve as a clearinghouse for all information related to recovery from the shootings at Marysville Pilchuck High School.
The website, Marysville/Tulalip United (MTUnited.org), is a joint project of the city of Marysville, the Tulalip Tribes and the Marysville School District, and more than anything else is designed to make it easier for people to get information.
All three entities have been meeting regularly since Oct. 24, when a student shot five of his friends in the school cafeteria before turning the gun on himself. Four of the victims died, as did the shooter.
There has been some duplication and confusion in outreach efforts with the city, tribe and district posting important information to their own websites.
Some people might call the city looking for an event that is being sponsored by the school district, said Tara Mizell, the chairman of the community recovery team.
The recovery team knew they needed a central clearinghouse, and decided to stop talking about it and just do it, Mizell said.
“We just want to have one place for people to go to get information,” Mizell said.
The website is still simple. It includes a calendar of events, such as training sessions, community meetings and announcements. It also provides links and numbers to services such as mental health counseling and suicide prevention.
It’s still just a passive website — there is no mailing list sign-up, for example — but representatives from all three jurisdictions are posting to it and reading emails sent through a form on the site, Mizell said.
