SEATTLE — Lia Galdeira had a career-high and tournament-record 34 points Thursday as Washington State won the opening game of the Pac-12 women’s tournament, 66-64 over Oregon.
Galdiera was 6-of-10 from 3-point range and 14-of-24 overall with six rebounds and four assists for the Cougars (17-13).
Drea Toler stole Galdiera’s pass and took all the way for a layup, pulling Oregon (13-17) within 66-64 with 1:04 left.
Washington State failed to score and Toler missed a layup for the Ducks with nine seconds left. Galdiera missed the front end of a 1-and-1, and Oregon’s Lexi Peterson banked in a 3-pointer after the buzzer, too late to count.
WSU faces second-seeded and No. 9-ranked Arizona State in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Jillian Alleyne had 18 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Ducks. She became just the fourth player in NCAA history to record 450-plus rebounds in back-to-back seasons.
