YAKIMA — For the third time in as many seasons, the King’s boys basketball team is going to play for the Class 1A state title.
The Knights clamped on the defense in the second half Friday night and dispatched Vashon Island 62-32 to earn the right to play Lynden Christian in Saturday’s championship game.
The contest is a rematch of the Northwest District championship, which King’s won 74-63 on Feb. 14.
King’s (24-2) lost its previous two title-game appearances.
In Friday’s game, King’s held Vashon to just eight points in the second half, including just two in the fourth quarter when the Knights blew the game open.
Corey Kispert scored 20 points and Noah Bundrant added 15 points and nine rebounds to lead the Knights to their 21st consecutive victory.
Vashon (23-2) shot just 28 percent from the floor and did not have a player score in double figures.
