SAMMAMISH — The FBI says law enforcement officers have found an underground bunker near Seattle that’s believed to have been used by a convicted bank robber who spent nearly five years on the run before he was arrested last summer.
FBI Seattle spokeswoman Ayn Dietrich-Williams said investigators have hauled out large tubs of evidence from the bunker found Tuesday east of Seattle near Lake Sammamish. There’s no immediate word on what was inside.
Reporters got a tour of the bunker, which included a cot, plastic bags and shelves with bottles.
Bradley Robinett fled in 2009 instead of reporting to a Seattle halfway house after serving time for bank robbery. He was arrested in June in Hillsboro, Oregon. In January, he pleaded guilty in federal court to escape and related counts. Sentencing is set for May 4. The spokeswoman says agents’ investigation suggested Robinett buried a cache of crime-related materials near the lake.
KOMO-TV reported that agents think Robinett may have built other bunkers in Washington.
