RHODODENDRON, Ore. — Federal authorities investigating an explosion along U.S. Highway 26 on the flanks of Mount Hood say one person died, but the cause has not yet been disclosed.
Authorities closed off the busy highway near Rhododendron for hours on Thursday to check reports of a large explosion.
A bomb-disposal unit inspected a white car parked on the side of the road.
Video from a KGW-TV news helicopter showed debris on top of the car but there was no apparent exterior damage.
FBI spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele said a body was found but she wouldn’t say where.
She said the medical examiner will determine cause of death.
Federal and Oregon officials were still on the scene.
