Weekend best bets: Booze, gardening, whales, music, more

Sip: Enjoy the craft spirits crafted by local distillers at Snohomish On the Rocks Distillery Festival on Saturday. The event features more than 25 distilleries with tastings from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Get more info in our story here. Think spring: The Port Susan Home and Garden show is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. There will be displays, vendors and speakers. Get more info and the schedule of speakers here.

Whale watching: Gray whales are hanging out between Whidbey Island and Everett right now, and you can see them up close. A new whale watching tour begins this weekend out of Edmonds. Check out the details in our story here.

Crafty: Take your school-age children to the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd., at 3:30 p.m. on Friday for the Spring Craft-tacular. Celebrate the vernal equinox, the first day of spring, with several crafts, activities and take-home projects to brighten your day. For more information, call 425-493-8202.

Color guards: The Winterguard Classic Competition is Saturday in Kamiak High School’s main gym, 10801 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo. Preliminary competition begins at 11 a.m. and the finals begin at 4:45 p.m. Color guard teams from Washington, Canada and Oregon will compete. Winterguards use flags, sabres and mock rifles choreographed with ballet, jazz, modern and contemporary dance. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students and seniors. Children 5 and under are free.

Tricky: Boxtales Theatre Company presents “Trickster Tales from Around the World” at 2 p.m. Saturday at Everett Civic Auditorium, 2415 Colby Ave. Join in a humorous and magical journey with Raven, Ananse, Br’er Rabbit, and other wily creatures. The interactive show incorporates live music, movement, comedy, oral tradition and masks. Tickets are $15. For more, go to villagetheatre.org/everett.

Local talent: Before singers/songwriters Bradford Loomis and Beth Whitney set out on a tour of the East Coast this spring, the duo has a few local shows to play. One is Friday night at the Red Curtain Arts Center in Loomis’ boyhood town of Marysville. Loomis and Whitney, who grew up in Snohomish, have received rave reviews of their self-titled album “The Banner Days.” Get all the details in our story here. Laugh: Check out the well-known English comedy “Noises Off,” which drags its audience laughing right into its play within a play.
