The Tips were playing their cards close to their chest Monday with regards to the status of defenseman Ben Betker.
Everett general manager Garry Davidson described Betker as day-to-day with an upper-body injury Monday, declining to provide details beyond that.
Betker, a stalwart on Everett’s defense, left midway through the first period of Everett’s 6-2 loss to Spokane in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series. Betker was hit into the boards and came away appearing to clutch his arm. He did not return.
The small amount of details revealed Monday came as no surprise. It’s standard operating procedure in the hockey world to be tight-lipped about injuries during the postseason.
If Betker is unavailable for Wednesday’s Game 3 in Spokane it’s a big blow for the Tips. The 6-foot-6 overager plays heavy minutes against opposing top lines as a member of Everett’s top defensive pairing.
