EVERETT — A mission of the Schack Art Center is to encourage young artists through classes and displays.
It seems to be working.
The Schack received more than 165 entries for its 2015 Black &White Photography Contest, which was open to all Snohomish County high school students.
An exhibit of all the entries is displayed in the Schack’s Emerging Young Artist Gallery through April 28. The Schack, located at 2921 Hoyt Ave., Everett, is closed only on Easter Sunday this month.
Photographs were judged in two age categories, grades 9 and 10 and grades 11 and 12.
Judges were photographers Wendy Fagan, Gena Reebs and Betty Udesen.
The grand prize winner is Alexander Rahill, a junior at Edmonds Woodway High School. He won for his photograph “Timeless Talent.”
Other winners in the contest included:
Stanwood High School sophomore Madison Chollar, who won first place for “Floating Through Duality.”
Edmonds Woodway sophomore Lexi Brown, who got second place for “Tear Drops On My Guitar.”
Edmonds Woodway freshman Fran Herr, third place for “Plié.”
Meadowdale senior Mackenzie Jones, who won first place for “Op Art Still Life.”
