OLYMPIA — The Washington state House of Representatives has voted to ban powdered alcohol for all but research purposes.
In a 91-6 vote Monday, the chamber voted to prohibit possession, sale and use of powdered alcohol, which an Arizona-based company has announced plans to sell nationwide later this year. The House-approved bill amends a Senate-passed measure to regulate powdered alcohol as alcoholic beverages are.
Representatives Christopher Hurst, Democrat of Enumclaw, and Jeff Holy, Republican of Cheney, said allowing Palcohol to be sold in Washington would increase ways to illicitly sneak alcohol into places where it is regulated. Senate Bill 5292 now moves back to the Senate for concurrence.
