SEATTLE — King County Metro is on a hiring binge after Seattle voters approved an expansion of bus service.
KIRO Radio reported that the agency is racing to hire hundreds of new drivers, and classrooms at Metro’s operations center in Tukwila are packed with dozens of prospective new drivers undergoing the month-long training. Those who pass will be hired part-time at $21.15 an hour, plus benefits.
The agency is selective. Recruits must be able not only to drive a bus, but to deal with passengers from all walks of life and any problems that arise.
Carri Brezonick, Metro’s superintendent of operations training, says the expanded service will start in Seattle in June.
