Snoqualmie Ice Cream shop to open for season Friday

Local ice cream maker, Snoqualmie Ice Cream, plans to reopen for the season on Friday. The shop in Maltby will now be a tasting room where customers can come and taste all the businesses 19 signature flavors every day as well as five rotating flavors that won’t be sold in other stores. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. at the store at 21106 86th Ave. SE in rural Snohomish. The entire menu is available here.

Shredding event to be held at 1st Security Bank Edmonds

1st Security Bank Edmonds will be hosting a free paper shredding event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. E-Waste, LLC will also be there to collect old electronics from the public. Free electronics accepted include TVs, computers, monitors, laptops and cell phones. Other electronics will be accepted for $5 each. For questions, please call 425-239-4118.

DeVry University in Lynnwood to go only online

Pending approval from the Washington Student Achievement Council and the Higher Learning Commission, DeVry University plans to transition to online-only in this region, closing locations in Federal Way and Lynnwood. According to DeVry representatives, approximately 50 percent of students already take their classes exclusively online, and more than 85 percent take a mix of classes on campus and online.

Mount Vernon skilled nursing facility purchased

Five Oaks Healthcare has announce the acquisition of Mira Vista Care Center, a 94-bed skilled nursing facility in Mount Vernon. The name along with other aspects of day-to-day operations will remain unchanged. Five Oaks is a small family-run healthcare joint venture based in Seattle specializing in the operation of local, community-focused skilled nursing facilities in the Northwest.
