MERCER ISLAND — An early morning fire has damaged a sprawling Mercer Island home.
KOMO-TV reported that the blaze started as a garage fire that spread to the interior of the residence thanks to live ammunition inside the garage.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at SE 59th Street before 6 a.m. after receiving reports of fire and a large plume of smoke pouring from the house.
When they arrived, they found flames spreading from the garage to the center of the house, which is located near Island Crest Way.
As crews battled the blaze, live ammunition popped loudly inside the garage.
Everyone escaped from the burning home, and no injuries were reported.
