EVERETT — Warm spring weather means local produce is arriving early.

Everett Farmers Market, now in its 22nd year, opens Mother’s Day on the waterfront near the marina.

Local strawberries should be available at the market at least by May 17, market manager Karen Erickson said.

Farms of various sizes from a four-county region, and a few from Eastern Washington, participate in the Everett market.

At peak season during the summer, more than 90 vendors will sell their fruit, vegetables, food they produce, hot lunch, plants, flowers, soaps and salves, and arts and crafts each Sunday. Shoppers also can count on live music performances at the market.

“This year we’ve added a couple more organic farms and a meat vendor, and we’ll have samplings of local wine, hard cider and craft beer,” Erickson said. “We’re looking forward to a good season and a great community market.”

Many people start their market visit with a cup of coffee and a fresh-baked pastry, and then stroll around the open-air stands to see what is available. People also can check the vendor map on the market website on Saturdays to find out who will be there the next day.

“Our longtime foodie customers love coming down to Everett’s waterfront and appreciate being able to talk to the farmers,” she said. “They find out how to prepare the produce the farmers are selling and they form friendships.”

What else should people know about the market?

Bring your own shopping bags and keep a tight leash on your dog.

No cash? If you want to use a bank debit card or a food assistance EBT card, you can buy tokens at the market desk to spend with the vendors.

“The weather is supposed to be good on Sunday,” Erickson said. “I hope we have a lovely day.”
