Take mom: The Camano Island Studio Tour is Friday to Sunday this weekend and Saturday and Sunday next weekend. Forty-some artists, 30 studios and three galleries are on the self-guided free tour. Choo choo! Saturday is National Train Day. Swamp Creek &Western Railroad Association will have an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Edmonds Amtrak Depot, 210 Railroad St., Edmonds. It’s in the freight room of the Edmonds depot, in the building that’s shared with Amtrak. It’s free and all ages are welcome to come learn about trains and admire the elaborate model layouts. The big rigs: For more fun on wheels, Touch-a-Truck is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Mukilteo’s Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave. Kids of all ages can see, touch and ride in the biggest, coolest and fastest cars and trucks on the streets of Mukilteo. Police, fire and public works will have their super-duper rigs on hand. Free, but donations of a non-perishable food item are welcome. Get more info here.
Bloom: Kids can plants pots with flowers for Mother’s Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Edmonds Farmers Market at Fifth Avenue and Bell Street. Kids of all ages are welcome. Volunteers will be available to help. A $10 donation is appreciated. Also, at noon, there is a Children’s Fairy Flower Parade, beginning at the Edmonds Library.
Useable art: Make a stepping stone at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo. Concrete, mosaic marbles, pebbles and broken china and tiles will be supplied to decorate a garden stepping stone. Provide your own mold, such as an 8-inch cake pan, plastic pot saucer or disposable pie plate, as well as unique toppings to add. Dress to get a little messy. All ages. Register online here.
“The Ugly Duckling”: See the classic on the stage at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday at Everett-Storybook Theater. Life isn’t quite what it’s quacked up to be for an unfortunate, young duckling. Bullied by family and friends, the plucky ducky decides to leave home for something better. Tickets $11. Call 425-820-1800 for reservations or go to storybooktheater.org.
Fish-in: A free kids’ fish-in is from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Sullivan Park on the west side of Silver Lake. The event is for ages 4-14 and is limited to the first 600 kids. Prior registration is required because fishing times are pre-assigned. For more information, call Everett Parks &Rec at 425-257-8300 (extension 2), or visit the department’s website. Experts will be on hand to help the inexperienced. Bring your own rod, reel and tackle if possible, but some may be available for loan.
