SEATTLE — The Sound Transit Board of Directors is preparing to hire a new chief executive officer as Joni Earl readies for retirement next year.
Earl, a former top Snohomish County manager, has been on medical leave for about a year. Mike Harbour, the agency’s former deputy CEO, has been heading the agency as her interim replacement.
Sound Transit is working with an executive search firm.
Until her exit, Earl plans to work in a limited capacity to help the transition to a new CEO.
Sound Transit has been in the process of expanding its Link light rail system, which is scheduled to reach Northgate in 2021 and Lynnwood in 2023.
The next big milestone is expected for early next year, when the agency expects to open an extension connecting Capitol Hill and the University District to downtown Seattle.
