SPOKANE — Dive teams have pulled the plane that crashed just north of Felts Field out of the Spokane River.
KXLY-TV reported that teams got the plane out of the water Saturday. The National Transportation Safety Board can now begin its investigation to determine why the plane crashed on Thursday.
Pilots Lyndon Amestoy and Richard Runyon were trapped inside for about 30 minutes and died.
Dive teams with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office got in the water around 9 a.m. Two boats trolled the Spokane River as divers attached straps to the remnants of the plane 30 feet under water.
The wrecked fuselage of the doomed Piper Malibu Mirage was raised from the river bed with an inflatable balloon and then towed by boat to a waiting dock and small crane.
Dive teams remained on scene into Saturday afternoon gathering other pieces of the aircraft.
