Amphitheater speaker programs to start
Camano Island State Park’s annual speaker series starts May 23 with Rick Wood, documentary filmmaker of the award-winning film, “Fragile Waters.”
Wood’s presentation begins at 7 p.m. at the park’s amphitheater. He will discuss his personal story of how at age 39 in 2011 he threw his life into filmmaking and the resulting 2014 movie telling the complete story of the perils facing southern resident orcas and chinook salmon.
The summer amphitheater speakers series takes place at 7 p.m. every Saturday through Labor Day weekend. Programs span a variety of topics and interests, including presentations about wildlife of the Camano Island area; a hands-on introduction to geocaching; how to catch and cook crabs; a presentation on climate change with practical solutions; native trees of Puget Sound; and Ice Age animals.
Camano Island State Park is at 2269 S. Lowell Road.
Learn pancake art: Pancake artist Brek Nebel is set to teach the tricks of transforming everyday pancakes into edible works of art. Brek’s pancakes have been featured on “The Chew,” “The Meredith Vieira Show” and elsewhere. The two-hour workshop is set for 10 a.m. May 30 at the Jennings Park Barn, 6915 Armar Road, Marysville.
