Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling and two Edmonds City Council incumbents will run unopposed in the Nov. 6 election.
Earling will be the only candidate for Edmonds mayor to run unopposed in more than 25 years.
The two incumbent council members running unopposed are Councilwoman Diane Buckshnis and appointed Councilman Thomas Mesaros.
Buckshnis has filed for a second four-year term. She joined the council by appointment in 2010 before winning a full term in 2011.
Mesaros will run for a full four-year term plus the last month of the term that former Councilman Frank Yamamoto won in 2011. The Council appointed Mesaros to replace Yamamoto in 2012.
Appointed Councilman Mike Nelson got a challenger on the last day of the May 11-15 filing week. The challenger is Alvin Rutledge, who has run unsuccessfully in the last four council elections. Nelson and Rutledge will run for the last two years of the term that former Councilman Strom Peterson won in 2013. Peterson resigned in January to start the term in the state legislature that he won in 2014.
Councilwoman Lora Petso has a challenger for re-election to the term that she won in 2011. He’s Neil Tibbott, who was an applicant early this year when the council chose Nelson to replace Peterson. Petso joined the council by appointment in 2010 and won a full term in 2011. She had served one earlier term on the Council.
Two candidates have filed to replace incumbent Councilwoman Joan Bloom, who announced two weeks ago that she wouldn’t seek a second four-year term. One candidate is retired Qwest Communications Public Policy Director David Teitzel, who was another applicant to replace Peterson. The other is Alicia Crank, client services coordinator for SBI Management Services in Seattle.
Filing ended Friday. Candidates could withdraw from the ballot through 5 p.m. Monday.
Since no positions will have more than two candidates, none will appear on the Aug. 4 primary ballot. Positions with only one or two candidates appear only on the November ballot.
Councilwomen Adrienne Fraley-Monillas and Kristana Johnson are in the middle of terms that they won in 2013.
