SHORELINE — King’s scored two goals in the span of a minute midway through the first half to race out to an early lead over visiting Toledo-Winlock in a 1A state tournament first-round game on Tuesday night.
Lars Helleren headed a Tim Sawyer corner kick into the mixer, where it was turned off the far post and in by Nathan Richards to get the Knights (16-5) on the board.
Josh Martin’s long throw-in gave Ryan Fransen an opening just a minute later, and Fransen flicked a shot off the back post and in to give King’s breathing room just 21 minutes into the match.
“We probably should have had five or six goals by that time, so it was a big relief when we finally cracked the code and got one in,” King’s coach Sam Hartman said. “We were really peppering their keeper with shots.”
Helleren scored the Knights’ third goal in the 65th minute to see King’s through to the quarterfinals. They’ll face the winner of Klahowya and La Center on Friday.
