Weekend best bets: Waterfront fest, wedding tour, anime, beer, more

On the water: The Edmonds Waterfront Festival is 3 to 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Port of Edmonds Marina. There will be children’s activities, arts and crafts, music, a beer garden and a classic yacht show. Admission is $3, free for ages 12 and younger. More at www.edmondswaterfrontfestival.com.

Small-town fun: Darrington Day is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at locations around the town. Smokey the Bear, lively local musicians, aspiring artists and a hometown hero are among the guests expected during the event. The fun includes tours of the Hampton Lumber Mill; kids’ activities at the library; book signing at Mountain Loop Books and Coffee; archery lessons at the Darrington Archery Range; and the Whitehorse Farmers Market Garden Swap and Shop. Hands-on: Kids (and big kids) can enjoy Touch-A-Truck from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Monroe Christian School, 1009 W. Main St., Monroe. Climb a tree: Ascend high into the canopy of an oak or maple tree from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Doleshel Park, 9028 67th Ave. Participants will join Katie Oakley to inch your way up the rope system into the leaves and experience a tree in a whole new way. Cost is $30. Equipment and helmets provided. Climbing is for ages 14 and older; ages 6 to 13 can climb with a registered adult. Pre-registration is required. All about pugs: Seattle Pug Rescue’s 20th annual Pug Gala is from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Evergreen Fairgrounds in Monroe. Pancake Art: Transform everyday pancakes into pieces of art in this workshop by Brek Nebel, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Jennings Memorial Park in Marysville. Nebel’s pancakes have been featured in the Huffington Post, The Chew and on the Meredith Vieira show. Cost is $25 for ages 16 and older; ages 4 to 15 can attend with a registered adult. Drink up: The Aloha Brewfest is noon to 5 p.m. Saturday in Mobius Hall at the UW-Bothell campus, 18115 Campus Way NE. Seventeen breweries will offer beers with an aloha spirit, including Big E Ales, Diamond Knot and SnoTown Brewery. Flowers: See Japanese flower arrangements from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at 15720 Main Street, Mill Creek. An Ikenobo group will show their creation local masters.
