OSO — Families of Oso slide victims say they are preparing to sue a man who is taking people on river rafting tours through the slide zone.
KIRO-TV reported that David Button initially delayed plans to take people down the Stillaguamish, after some people protested in March. However, this past weekend, he took a group of three through the slide area for $45 each. Seventy more people have already signed up for the trip.
Button says he understands people’s feelings, but notes that the slide area is not a sacred area or a graveyard. The guide says the river can’t be closed forever. He says he is setting aside money for the families of victims, perhaps as a scholarship fund.
Attorney Karen Willie says several families have already sent Button a legal letter demanding he not go through with the tour. Now her clients are ready to go to court.
